How to protect your brand registering your domain name
If you want to launch a startup or a SaaS project for sure you already have in mind a good name. Choosing a brand name is a task more complex than you might think, in fact, there are some important steps to consider:
- Create a brand avatar: Identify the profile of your ideal user because the brand name should be cognate to the values of the target customer.
- Create your brand archetype: Define your brand essence and set of values (search for 12 Brand Archetypes on the web).
- Brainstorm brand name ideas: Define brand name using shortness and simplicity criteria. Remember also to verify that names have no negative connotations in any language and are easy to pronounce.
- Check the availability of your best brand name ideas: Verify not only the availability of the domain name but also that the name is not already trademarked.
After you found your brand name you need to register the domain name.
Enter into your AWS console and insert “Route 53” into the service search field. Then in the Amazon Route 53 console select Domain Registration and click on the button “Register Domain”. The Domain Registration is composed of three steps:
- Choose the domain name, the top-level domain (.com, .net, .org, …) and then click “Add to cart”.
- Add the contacts details and then click “Continue”
- Review and confirm clicking on “Complete Purchase”
